Dominant Dede takes third stage victory, Moses L Kamara first Sierra Leonean

The penultimate stage of the Science in Sport Tour de Lunsar saw the peloton ride from Lunsar to Rogberi Junction and back over a shortened parcours. A Presidential visit to Lunsar delaying the originally planned stage, the national Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh opened the action when it did finally get underway.

Preye John Dede of Team Access Bank by Pitstop began the day wearing the Science in Sport yellow jersey and was looking to take his third consecutive stage victory of the race. After a stronger showing on stage two, the Sierra Leonean teams were aiming to continue their rise up the standings.

The attacks came from the start; however it took some time for the breakaway to form on the road to Rogberi Junction. Local hero Osman T Kalokoh attempted to distance the peloton alongside riders from Team Access by Pitstop, but couldn’t make it stick. Nerves were high in the bunch as a crash brought down several riders, all were able to continue after dusting themselves down, however.

B. Emmanuel of Team Access by Pitstop Lagos was the first to escape, putting a small gap between himself and the chasers as he headed back towards Lunsar. In time though, the strength of Dede told. The race leader rode clear alongside teammate Innocent Emmanuel and outsprinted the former Zwift orange jersey wearer to claim yet another stage win. Azeez Odebiyi rounded out the podium. Moses L Kamara (LCT A) was the first Sierra Leonean to cross the line in fifth place.

In the Zwift points classification, Preye John Dede took maximum points at the finish to further strengthen his position with a day to go. Dede also has an unassailable advantage in the Marampa Mines KOM classification after taking all three points on today’s stage.

The Nigerian simply needs to reach the finish tomorrow in order to take both jerseys home with him. Who would bet against him making it three LeCol leader’s jerseys from three on stage four?
