Why donate?

Cyclists in Sierra Leone remain desperately short of good quality, raceable road bikes. That old road frame currently sitting in your shed or cluttering up the hallway could have an entirely new life in Sierra Leone, covering hundred more kilometres and – who knows – maybe playing a vital role in the early career of a future Olympian or professional cyclist. For this donation drive, we are specifically asking for raceable road bikes in decent condition, particularly those in smaller frame sizes, and women’s road bikes.

Why now?

It typically costs between £30 and £50 to ship a bike to Sierra Leone, but until 31 January 2024 we have access to free space in a container ship headed for Freetown. This is an extremely rare opportunity to ship donated bikes free of cost. We’re also seeing the biggest rise in participation in cycling in Sierra Leone that we have experienced since the Lunsar Cycling Team was founded. There are new clubs being set up, plus more women and girls taking up the sport than ever before.

How do I donate?

It couldn’t be easier. Our friends at 22 Bishopsgate and the charity Reseed have organised a drop-off point in the very heart of London, where you can donate your bike in person, Monday to Friday during normal office hours. Just swing by and drop the bike with any member of staff at the Active Commuter Park entrance. We’ll do the rest.

If you have any concerns at all about getting your bike into central London, email us today and we’ll figure out a solution that works!

What if I don’t live in London?

Unless you feel like going for a very long training ride, it may not be possible for you to reach central London with your bike in tow. If you still want to support, our friends at Reseed have created a donation link.

This bike drive fundraiser is a joint activity with Together We Ride CIC who donate bikes to local people in the London area. A portion of the donated bikes will go to TWR recipients. If you would like to specifically donate your bicycle to Sierra Leone, you may indicate this to us via email.
