Day 4 – Men’s race stage 3

Capping off an incredible four days of racing, Sorie Koroma secures the yellow jersey.

On the final day of action we saw a third different stage winner and the fourth Le Col yellow jersey leader of the race. This sort of variation is what makes West African cycling so exciting.

Stage three of this years race was familiar to the riders as it was following the classic Science in Sport Tour de Lunsar course from Lunsar to Port Loko and then back to Lunsar and had been used by the women and junior racers three days prior.

At the end of a stage that saw numerous attacks and a small group go up the road, it was 2019 junior winner Moses L Kamara (Lunsar B) who won in a sprint from stage two winner Ibrahim S Jalloh (Lunsar A) and Minkialu M Conteh (Lunsar B).

Once again there was a change in the General Classification. Consistency is key when it comes to riding for the GC and Sorie Koroma certainly proved that. A constant presence at the front of the race on all three stages, Sorie once again finished in the lead group and therefore leapfrogged Abu Sheik Sesay on the leaderboard. The final GC podium is therefore Sorie Koroma (Lunsar A), Abu Sheik Sesay (Lunsar B) in second and stage winner Moses L Kamara (Lunsar B) in third.

As well as the final podium, day four also saw the presentation of the other three Le Col leaders classification jerseys. Ibrahim Kamara was presented with the green junior men’s champion jersey, Ibrahim Jalloh with the white sprints jersey and Isata Sama Mondeh with her second consecutive women’s championship blue jersey.

The final stage drama rounded out an incredible long weekend of racing that saw the very best of West African cycling. From the first days blistering sprint between Isata Sama Mondeh and Deborah Conteh to the final lunge to the line by Moses L Kamar, it’s been a whirlwind tour. As you will see below, our riders celebrated in classic Sierra Leone style.
