Dominant team display from Benin National women’s squad
Hermionne Ahouissou took the stage win on day one of the women’s Tour de Lunsar presented by Zwift, crossing the line side by side with teammates Yetonde Raimatou Kpovihouede and Georgette Vignonfodo. The trio are here in Sierra Leone riding for the Benin national team, and came into the event as hot favourites for the win. Ultimately, they were able to overpower the Sierra Leonean peloton and ride away after around 30km of the 73-kilometre parcours.
An earlier move featuring all three Benin riders, plus Esther Mansaray and Blessing Jabbie the two top-ranked riders in the recently concluded Salone Cup domestic racing series in Sierra Leone. Unfortunately for the home nation’s hopes, this move was brought back by the chasing peloton after cooperation in the leading group broke down, only for the Beninese trio to get away again, this time alone and for good.
